Kimpton Clocktower Hotel appoints general manager

UK: Johan Scheepers has been appointed as general manager of the 270-bed Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester, the brand’s fourth and final hotel to open in the UK.

Scheepers joins the Kimpton property with experience from a number of hotels within the IHG portfolio, most recently Intercontinental The George after a rebrand investment in October 2019.

Prior to that, he took on the role of opening general manager at the Principal Charlotte Square following the completion of a £25 million refurbishment.

Scheepers commented on his new role: “I am very much looking forward to being part of the next phase for this iconic Manchester hotel and opening it as the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel. This is the latest addition to the global Kimpton brand, and the last site to open here in the UK – I believe we have saved the best until last! Each Kimpton hotel is an escape from the ordinary, and Kimpton Clocktower Hotel will offer a real ‘wow’ factor stay with a warm Mancunian welcome.”

The hotel will reopen on 1 October, joining Kimpton London Fitzroy, Kimpton Blythswood Square in Glasgow, and Kimpton Charlotte Square in Edinburgh.

It features 270 loft-style rooms including 11 suites, all with in-room yoga mats and complimentary tuck boxes of treats. Other amenities include The Winter Garden (an interior glasshouse), The Refuge by Volta (a bar and restaurant); and 17 meeting rooms.

Scheepers added: “The Kimpton brand is rooted in human heartfelt connections and we look forward to welcoming guests and locals in a city world renowned for its warmth, charm and exuberance.”
