Worldwide: Boutique hotel group The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts has launched a franchise model for hotel owners and operators, and is waiving the initial joining fee for all new properties until January 2021.

In its portfolio, Pavilions currently has nine hotels and resorts across Asia and Europe under ownership and management.

Within Asia the use of the franchise model has been limited, whereas in the US it’s estimated that over 70 per cent of hotels are franchised.

"We are seeing a definite change in expectations from owners in Asia,” said Scot Toon, The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts' managing director for the region. “There are many great boutique properties across the region, delivering great experiences to guests in their properties. However they are struggling to attract business to the property without being a known brand and seeing the high costs involved in the marketing of a stand-alone property."

Gordon Oldham, founder and owner The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts, added: "As an owner and operator of many of our hotels and resorts, we understand the business intimately. As a boutique brand, we are able to be more dynamic, flexible and reactive to the ever-changing markets than the large generic brands. We have a 20-year history of success, and now with the offering of lower fees for a franchise agreement, this provides affordable access to a worldwide brand.”

Under Pavilions’ franchise, owners can maintain full operational control of their property whilst gaining access to its global distribution from the brand website and other sales channels.

The first franchise property joined earlier this yeas as The Pavilions El Nido Resort, on Palawan island in the Philippines. It is scheduled to open in 2022.

The group also offers owners or developers full hotel management services, including sales, marketing and revenue management, technical assistance with guidance on project development, conceptual briefs, human resources and training, and project management.
