UK: Starwood Capital Group is planning to launch an urban lifestyle hotel brand in the UK.

The company is expected to invest up to £100 million in renovating and expanding a group of properties it owns across the UK in order to create the new brand.

The hotels were all acquired by Starwood Capital over the last two years, and include the 373-room Hotel Russell in London, the 167-room Royal York Hotel in York, the 100-room Blythswood Square and 230-room Grand Central in Glasgow, and the 49-room Bonham, the 249-room George and the 199-room Roxburgh, all in Edinburgh.

Renovation work is already underway at the George and the Royal York hotels, and will start at the other properties later this year. The as yet unnamed new brand is expected to be launched in 2016.
