UK: Owner of Harbour Hotels, the Nicolas James Group, has acquired The Savoy Hotel in Bournemouth with plans for a £20m redevelopment as the first property under a new five-star collection.

The properties are to be located along the UK’s coastline, beginning in Bournemouth with more sites to follow. The mixed-use concept will include a hotel alongside apartments.

The Savoy Hotel is set to undergo a soft refurbishment and will reopen 60 of its 106 bedrooms for the 2021 summer season. Come September it will then close for a full redevelopment and rebrand.

Set to relaunch in summer 2022, the 100-key hotel will include a spa and wellness club, several food and beverage offerings, a new rooftop and garden restaurants, outdoor terraces, as well as meetings and events facilities.

Nicolas Roach, chairman of the Nicolas James Group, said: "For previous generations, Bournemouth was the prime coastal location. With phenomenal untapped potential, on one of Europe's top beaches, it is time to bring back the golden era of Bournemouth's hospitality and raise the game, starting on the Westcliff. As in other locations, our group will invest heavily, much like we did in Southampton, transforming Ocean Village into a five-star destination."

Later this year, the Harbour Hotels brand is to open its second site in Salcombe, Devon. The Beach Club & Spa will feature 10 luxury residential apartments.
