US: The Planet Ocean Underwater Hotel has gained its patent and trademark approval, and is set to move to the construction stage.

The hotel will be built in around 30 feet of water off Key West, and guests will access the 12-room property via a sealed lift.

The rooms will have an area of 16 by 12 feet, and will offer views of the marine through clear acrylic wall and ceiling panels.

The hotel is also mobile and can be moved by its electromagnetic propulsion technology in the event of bad weather.

Managing director of Planet Ocean, Tony Webb, said of the project: ""I refer to it as inner space tourism and the new industry is now ready to launch into the ocean frontier. We will provide the protection, management, and expansion of the most fascinating hotels on the planet."

During its construction, Webb wants to research ways to protect and restore the world's coral reefs. "The philanthropic goal is to give back to the planetary community through Biorock coral reef restoration of the world's endangered coral reefs," he said.
