Australia: Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour has opened

Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour has opened, marking the opening of Sydney CBD's first international luxury hotel this millennium.

The hotel is situated opposite the International Convention Centre, meaning that the hotel will play a major role in the ongoing revitalisation of the vibrant Darling Harbour precinct.

The opening heralds the renaissance of new hotel development in Sydney. Over 40 hotels are scheduled to open in the next five years to support the city's tourism growth.

Simon McGrath, Chief Operating Officer of AccorHotels Pacific said: "Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour will be the first new-build 5-star hotel the city has seen in more than 15-years and it is going to be a flagship property not only for AccorHotels but for the Australian hotel industry."

The hotel will offer 590 guestrooms, including 35 coveted suites.  All of the hotel's guest rooms feature the Sofitel MyBed™ and floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Darling Harbour and the city. The suites feature an in-bathroom television, double shower heads and soaking tubs.

The hotel designed was managed by multi award-winning Sydney architect Richard Francis-Jones from Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp architects. Dreamtime Australia Design and the A+ Design Group all collaborated to create the property. Building was managed by Lend Lease.
The hotel will also feature three bars and a stylish signature restaurant, Atelier by Sofitel. The property also features nine flexible meeting spaces, including a grand 450-person Magnifique Ballroom, Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour.
