US: Marriott announced the opening of a new hotel in its Autograph Collection in West Texas.

The hotel will be the first boutique property of its kind in the city of Amarillo.

Christy King, director of sales and marketing for the property said: "Amarillo is going to get something we've never had before. It's going to be a beautiful gift of a brand-new boutique hotel that is upper upscale."

Construction is currently undergoing to get the hotel fully built by the 23rd of July, the hotel’s initial opening date. Delays due to the global pandemic, however, have pushed back the company’s plans.

King added: “We have to do two shifts, one in the morning and one at night. We only allow six people per floor and they can't come in contact with each other."

DJ Investment Realty, the ownership group responsible for this renovation has also committed to an additional redevelopment of Amarillo's historic Rule Building.

The 112 room hotel plans to offer a variety of unique amenities, including fitness facilities and a speakeasy style bar. Locals hope it will contribute to urban revitalisation efforts in downtown Amarillo.

The autograph collection unveiled another new hotel in Helsinki earlier this year, designed to be fully free of bed bugs. The brand also has a 2020 opening planned for their first Tokyo property, the mesm Tokyo.
