Gerard and Nina Basset, proprietors of Hotel TerraVina, have merged their hotel with fine dining group 10in8.

Gerard Basset was a co-founder of the original Hotel du Vin Group, and now runs the New Forest, Hampshire UK boutique hotel with his wife. The 10in8 collection of restaurants includes L'Ortolan, La Bécasse, Paris House and The Angel, and was founded by Michelin starred chef Alan Murchison.

The aim of the merger is "to continue the expansion plans of 10in8 together, with the exciting development of The Fine Dining Academy, as well as the creation of a world class cookery and wine school".

Nina Basset (pictured) will become the managing director of the group, with Richard Pursey as the chairman. Directors, Murchison and Gerard Basset will respectively lead the cuisine and wine culture of the group.

Each company will retain its original name and style. The 10in8 board will own shares in Hotel TerraVina and the Bassets will own shares in 10in8.

Nina Basset said: "We are delighted to join forces with Alan, Richard and their team. This merger will open up many great opportunities for the talented teams that already exist in both businesses. They will play such an important role in the development of the group and we are delighted for them as well as for us. We have already worked with 10in8 informally on a couple of joint projects and it was clear that the mix of Gerard's wine skills when combined with Alan's culinary expertise created a potent mix of talent that in our opinion is unsurpassed in the world of hotel management and fine dining."
