China: The five-storey Xinjia Express Hotel, in the city of Quanzhou in Fujian, was being used as a coronavirus quarantine facility when the building collapsed.

According to China Daily, 70 people were trapped in the rubble, of which 43 have been rescued.

China Global Television Network (CGTN) state that a total of 147 emergency staff have been dispatched to the scene.

People’s Daily reported on Twitter that the hotel collapsed around 7pm on Saturday 7 March, and that work remains underway.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known, and no deaths have been declared.

The BBC reported that as of Friday, the Fujian province accounted for nearly 300 cases of the coronavirus.

The World Health Organisation recently revealed that more than 100,000 people worldwide have now contracted the virus.
