UK: The boutique hotel in Malvern has finished the third phase of its refurbishment programme which initially began in 2017.

The completion of the third phase reveals a redesign of the entire hotel, as well as the addition of a new outdoor terrace overlooking the Severn Valley.

19 rooms in the hotel’s Coach House, and a family room in the Main House, have been transformed by Nelson Design. Furniture was sourced from suppliers such as Graham and Green, Swoon and Northern Lighting.

In addition to updating the design of the Coach Houses, the building has implemented environmentally friendly initiatives, saving energy usage by 60 per cent. The 25-seat covered terraced utilises energy-efficient black infrared heating.

Nick Davies, co-owner of The Cottage in the Wood, said: “The launch of the Coach House and terrace marks another successful milestone in our continued development of The Cottage in the Wood. We are extremely proud of the new design, providing an exemplary addition to our offering for our returning visitors and new guests. We have conducted the third stage as a highly sustainable construction project using eco-friendly materials to produce a healthy environment for our guests, with a low carbon footprint in the Malvern Hills.”

Davies purchased the property in 2015 with his wife Julia. In April 2017 the redesigned 1919 Restaurant & Bar and renovated public spaces in the Main House were launched.

Phase two was completed in spring 2019 as the Davies’ secured £2.1 million from The Cumberland Building Society, which enabled phase three to be completed two years ahead of schedule.

The Cottage in the Wood comprises the Main House with seven bedrooms, 1919 Restaurant & Bar, Beech Cottage with four bedrooms, and the Coach House with 19 bedrooms.
