Scotland: The Redhurst Hotel closed this week for its first major renovation in 50 years

Its owners, the Manorview Hotel and Leisure Group, have invested £3 million in the new design.

The company specialises in refurbishing and renovating old hotel properties across the Scottish Lowlands. Past projects include Cornhill Club in Biggar, Boclair House in Glasgow, and the Bowfield Country Club in Renfrewshire.

It owns eight hotels, two clubs, two pubs and a fitness centre in total.

This will be the first full refurbishment for the hotel since opening in 1967, under the leadership of Reo Stakis. Manorview installed new décor and carpets when it took over in 2013, but saved more work for a later date.

The venue has been owned by a wide variety of owners, including various local businessmen, Grand Metropolitan, and Chef & Brewer. Many employees, who have stayed with the property for years, are looking forward to the new facility.

Redhurst general manager Lesley Smith said: "We've been waiting for this much-needed refurb for a long time. This revamp will make the Redhurst an even greater asset to the local community and we'll be able to offer so much more."

The hotel will be closed for at least six months before work will be finished. Manorview has stated that no layoffs will occur as a result of redesigns.

Glasgow's boutique hotel scene has seen significant development in the past year. A Hotel Gotham opened in the city's centre in September, with plans for a historic conversion at Wellington House already approved.
