Thailand: Bangkok’s historic Sam Yot district is the site of a new luxury hotel, Villa de Pranakorn.

The hotel opened for bookings on the 14th of February.

The old quarter of the capital includes such monuments as the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Yaowarat, the city's Chinatown. The villa attempts to fuse the thai heritage of the surroundings with a refined urban style and luxury amenities.

Each of the hotel's 47 rooms provides an intimate base to explore the bustling city. Room features include comfortable beds, rain showers, contemporary amenities, and some feature standalone bathtubs.

The hotel is looking to the future as well, with a unique focus on sustainability. Working with eco-friendly company Panpuri, in-room amenities will be made from bamboo and packed in stone paper, and the hotel will provide refillable bottles to all guests.

The villa coincides with the launch of a nearby subway station next to the hotel. This puts visitors two stops away from Bangkok's main railway station, as well as a few stops away from the lively streets of Silom and Sukhumvit and one of Asia's biggest markets at Chatuchak Park.

The hotel itself is in the middle of a trendy neighbourhood, which during the day features Thai street food classics including Michelin starred noodle joint Jay Fai. At night, the neighbourhood transforms into a nightlife hub with locals and visitors both visiting trendy cocktail bars.

Thailand may be the source of another travel boom, with The Mondrian hotel brands setting it as one of the next places it was looking at developing.
