The Inn Collection Group acquires second Yorkshire site

UK: The purchase of The Black Swan marks the second acquisition of 2020 for the group, taking its portfolio total up to 13.

The 45-bedroom coaching inn, The Black Swan in Helmsley, will continue trading before a major redevelopment of the site. It will then reopen under the group’s ‘eat, drink, sleep and explore’ pubs with rooms brand.

The purchase closely follows that of The Pheasant Inn in Bassenthwaite Lake, Cumbria, earlier this month.

It will be the second Yorkshire property that The Inn Collection Group operates, alongside The King’s Head Inn in Newton – an award-winning freehold pub.

Sean Donkin, The Inn Collection Group’s managing director, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have added this superb venue to our collection. We’re looking forward to investing significant capital into realising the full potential of this phenomenal site for the community of Helmsley and visitors to Yorkshire alike to eat, drink, sleep and explore from.”

“We have a proven track record in repurposing and enhancing historic inns and we’re looking forward to turning our attention to The Black Swan as we continue to widen our customer base, group presence and visibility across the north of England,” he said.

Elsewhere, the group’s portfolio includes sites in Northumberland, County Durham, Sunderland and The Lake District.

The transaction was advised by Newcastle-based law firm Ward Hadaway, with Jones Land Lasalle on pre-acquisition diligence, alongside Clive Owen LLP and Bradley Hall.

The Inn Collection Group, supported through banking by OakNorth, will continue to roll out its buy and build expansion across the north of England.
