UK: The Castle Inn hotel in the Lake District has been put up for sale, with a £3.25m starting bid to kick things off.

The small hotel features 45 en-suite bedrooms, a conferencing and events facility, fitness and leisure club, and an indoor heated swimming pool.

"Opportunities to acquire freehold assets in the Lake District don't come about very often, so we're delighted to be bringing The Castle Inn Hotel to market on behalf of our client," said Savills Manchester director  Tom Cunningham, architect of the sale. "Set in an iconic location, with well-presented amenities, we're expecting strong interest in this property."

Located in Bassenthwaite, the hotel is said to lie in one of the most pictureseque spots in Cumbria, yet potential suitors may need to do some damage control before they reopen.

The Castle Inn received a rare zero-star hygiene rating last year from Allerdale council, vowing afterward to make positive changes to remedy the situation.

The lake district is a popular spot for hotel investment, with The Inn Collection Group investing in a small hotel in Bassenthwaite, as well as debuting in the region by renovating another in Ambleside. The rise in demand may help improve The Castle Inn's sale price even further.
