Worldwide: Marriott international has announced the opening of 3 new hotels under its Edition brand, with more along the way.

Japan, Iceland and Dubai are the site of the next openings, with the full development pipeline including 15 properties, over doubling Edition's footprint.

The brand was founded in 2007 as a partnership between Marriott and former Studio 54 owner Ian Schrager. Designed to create a boutique experience for guests wherever they visit, Schrager said of the brand "All of the Edition hotels are unique, original and one of a kind, embedded with a sense of time and place".

The hotels will have "the best of dining and entertainment, services and amenities 'all under one roof'," with the Tokyo and Reykjavik hotels having confirmed unique restaurant, cocktail and similar leisure facilities. Each will be designed in a manner which complements the rest of their city's design, with the Tokyo hotel being designed by Kengo Kuma, designer of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic national stadium.

This follows news last week of Marriott's W brand expanding onto the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. The company is expected to grow its luxury portfolio by 20 properties, with these three making up only a small portion.

These openings will entrench the position of Edition hotels within the luxury sphere, and with curated travel experiences on the rise in the new decade, this may pull Schrager and Marriott's venture to the forefront of high-end travel.
