US: The Curio Collection by Hilton property has opened in the downtown business district of San Diego.

The 16-floor, 246-room LEED Silver Certified hotel is set within the Little Italy neighbourhood, close to the Embarcadero waterfront.

Designed by The Manchette Studio, the hotel's interior pays homage to the neighbourhood's history as a fishing village. For example, abstract metal screens that resemble fishing nets can be found within the lobby.

A nautical colour scheme of blues and natural woods run throughout the hotel, whereas the exterior copper elements are said to reflect San Diego's sunsets.

Jessica Fichtner, interior designer at The Manchette Studio, said: "Every detail we've selected on the property has a unique story and a specific intention, and has been custom-made for Carté. The design elements we chose speak to the history our city was built on, while giving a modern nod to the local San Diego experience."

The guestrooms and suites feature 55" 4K televisions with smartphone streaming capabilities.

There is also 8,500 square feet of event space, including seven on-site private event options that cater to small to mid-size meetings and weddings.

Watercolours is the hotel's flagship restaurant, and will dish up a sea-to-table menu available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Fonte di Vino, the hotel's wine bar, features a specialty spirit tasting room and showcases a sampling of wines from Southern California and Northern Mexico.

Carté Hotel's rooftop bar, Above Ash Social, serves hand-crafted cocktails in a venue that features a heated saltwater pool and a large LED TV wall for outdoor gatherings.

"All three culinary venues at Carté Hotel have unique storytelling elements that truly encompass the breadth of San Diego flavours," said executive chef, Cesar Oceguera. "The team decided to focus on shareable plates, as our mission is rooted in community and we want guests to taste the entire menu, sharing the experience and enriching flavours with one another. We are also working on a variety of eco-friendly initiatives, so guests can dine sustainably without sacrificing flavour or quality."

Henri Birmele, general manager at Carté Hotel, remarked: "Carté Hotel will play an integral part in bringing together both guests and locals alike to celebrate Little Italy's heritage this fall."
