Northern Ireland: A leading County Down hotel in Newcastle is undergoing a major renovation programme from investment by Hastings Hotels.

The four-star hotel, owned and operated by Hastings Hotels, is located in six acres of private grounds at the foot of Slieve Donard - the tallest mountain of the Mourne Mountain range.

So far, the hotel's renovation has seen the creation of an entirely new kitchen, including work to the kitchen layout as well as the addition of new equipment.

"We are very passionate about food and have just launched our new seasonal menus in all of the hotel's dining options," said general manager, Michael Weston. "As part of the kitchen investment, we have also modernised our team member areas to ensure a harmonious working environment and a nice space for them to relax during their breaks."

Alongside this, the Drawing Room has been completely redesigned, whereas the final stage of the renovation will see 16 of the 181 bedrooms be luxuriously upgraded.

"We are confident that the award-winning Slieve Donard Resort & Spa will continue to be a major draw for the local tourism industry and this investment will allow for us to facilitate the growing markets of leisure and business visitors, while providing the very best of the famous Northern Ireland hospitality," Weston added.

The group has reported a 10 per cent growth in turnover over the last 12 months, with "excellent" forecasted bookings for the remainder of the year.
