UK: Administrators to online travel companies LateRooms and Super Break have been formally appointed by the court.

Tracey Pye and David Costley-Wood, from KPMG Restructuring, were appointed this morning as joint administrators to Laterooms Limited, Superbreak Mini-Holidays Limited, and Malvern Travel Technology Limited.

The Manchester-based companies recently came under significant cash flow pressure following news that Cox & Kings, a principle shareholder of owner Malvern Group, had defaulted on its debt repayments and therefore could not support the business in the short term. Cox & Kings also owns hybrid hotel brand Meininger.

Joint administrator, Pye, said: "The directors of Malvern Group embarked upon an accelerated sales process to bring further investment into the business. However, with the cash position of the company deteriorating rapidly, this process was unfortunately unsuccessful, prompting the directors to take the difficult decision to appoint the administrators."

"Coming in the midst of the summer holidays, we understand this news will be of grave concern to 23,000 LateRooms.com customers, and 19,000 Super Break customers who have future bookings with the Group," added Pye.

Pye and Costley-Wood are working closely with both the Association of British Travel Agents and the UK Civil Aviation Authority to minimise the disruption to customers.

The Group anticipates that future bookings with LateRooms are secure, whereas UK hotel-only bookings with Super Break will be cancelled.

With operations ceasing immediately upon the appointment of the joint administrators, most of companies' 253 employees have been stood down while options for the business are assessed.

43 employees remain as the administrators continue to seek buyers for the business and its assets.

Customers have been advised to visit www.laterooms.com and www.superbreak.com for further information on how future bookings will be affected. The customer contact centre is no longer operating and therefore unavailable for queries.
