Curio Collection by Hilton unveils Umbral in Mexico City

MX: Umbral – a 59-room boutique hotel – will debut in Mexico City as the latest addition to Curio Collection by Hilton.

Located in downtown Mexico City, Umbral is a restoration project from a heritage building that was constructed in 1924.

The hotel will overlook emblematic buildings such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the County Hall, and El Palacio de Hierro department store.

"Recognised as the number one city to visit this year by National Geographic, Mexico City has continued to remain a focus in our brand's expansion to destinations where today's travellers want to go," said Mark Nogal, global head at Curio Collection by Hilton. "We look forward to introducing travellers to our unexpected and authentic Curio Collection experiences that truly embody the local culture."

For those wanting to explore, guests can take an online quiz to identify interests that allow Umbral's experience curator to organise tours and itineraries.

Alternatively, guests can lounge on the rooftop terrace, complete with an outdoor heated pool, fitness centre, and a wellness bar. The hotel's restaurant, Terraza Umbral, will serve traditional dishes.

Local architect Javier Sanchez will design the property. In keeping with the hotel's name, all 59 guest rooms will feature two distinct environments - a dark entrance leading to a light room through a golden frame, symbolising an umbral.

Through a partnership with La Roma Records, each of the 12 suits will also include a record player with a personalised vinyl collection based on guests' preferences.

Umbral is part of Hilton Honours - an award-winning guest-loyalty programme for Hilton's 17 distinct hotel brands.

Curio Collection is also preparing for the opening of a second in-market property, Hotel Lafontaine, later this year.
