US: Kemmons Wilson Companies and Henry Turley Company have announced plans to open The Central Station, a 123-room boutique hotel in Memphis’ iconic South Main District.

The neighbourhood's 105-year-old transportation hub is being transformed into Memphis' latest boutique hotel, The Central Station, part of Curio Collection by Hilton, which will officially open its doors later this autumn.

The hotel will feature mid-century architectural design, a community style restaurant and bar, a world-class curated music experience, diverse meeting room spaces, and local artwork.

Originally built in 1914 as a transit hub, The Central Station draws its historic charm from South Main's distinct architecture, unique history and community spirit.

The hotel features eight floors of guest rooms, including nine suites, that evoke the essence of Memphis' rich colour scheme, design elements and various interactive experiences. The rooms will showcase views overlooking the Mississippi river and Memphis, as well as feature unique photographs from local artist Jamie Harmon.

Meanwhile, EgglestonWorks speakers designed by Memphis-based audio designer Jim Thompson will play curated music in each guest room.

Music will also play a vital role in the guest experience at The Central Station.

One of the centrepieces of the hotel will be its Listening Lounge/Bar, currently without a name, which will host an extensive collection of curated vinyl records. The hotel's intimate Listening Room will further showcase the EgglestonWorks speakers and it aims to provide both guests and locals with a world-class audio experience.

Additional amenities will include a fully equipped fitness centre, over 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and 3,750 square feet of retail space.

McLean T. Wilson, owner and developer of The Central Station, said: "The Central Station has an incredibly rich and nuanced history in South Main and, on a larger scale, in Memphis, and we are proud to continue honouring the historical landmark's legacy.

"The hotel will incorporate the property's history through eclectic, art-focused design and decor, a world-class music experience and real, honest food. We wanted to showcase quintessential Memphis and as a result, we endeavoured to ensure that guests staying at the hotel have no-doubt they're in Memphis, have no-doubt they're in South Main and have no doubt they're at The Central Station," he added.

The Central Station Hotel will be managed and operated by Valor Hospitality.

The Central Station will be located in the heart of the birthplace of rock 'n' roll, award-winning restaurants, historical landmarks, and a robust art scene, at 545 S Main Street, Memphis, Tenn.
