US: Gurney’s Resorts will continue its expansion with the addition of its second resort in Montauk: Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina, debuting in Spring 2019.

Known formerly as The Montauk Yacht Club, the property in New York is closed while it is undergoing a $13 million full-property upgrade to its 107 guestrooms, restaurants, lobby, ballroom, and meeting spaces. Additionally, the team will be upgrading its 232-slip marina. By April, Gurney's Star Island will reintroduce itself to hotel guests as an extension of Montauk's popular resort, as well as a premier destination for the boating and yachting communities. George Filopoulos of Metrovest and Lloyd Goldman of BLDG Management,  owners of Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa are leading the transition of the property to its new iteration.

In true Gurney's fashion, Gurney's Star Island will be a resort loaded with amenities, programmes, and services. These amenities include a selection of casual and fine dining restaurants, three pools, a private beach, kid's club, concierge services, complimentary shuttle service to and from Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, as well as yacht and seaplane service to Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina in Rhode Island. Gurney's Star Island Resort & Marina plans to deliver a full-service experience to its yachting guests.

The centrepiece restaurant of the resort will be named Showfish. Showfish's entire menu is locally sourced with seafood caught daily, brought to Gurney's docks by local fishermen. Virtually all produce is sourced from farms on the east end, located within 20 miles of the property and prepared on display at the restaurant's "vegetable butchery."

The Pool Club features waterfront chaise lounge chairs, distinctive cocktails and Gurney's signature lunch items (traditional and siracha lobster rolls).

The Il Forno Market will feature gourmet pizzas, freshly baked goods as well as an array of sandwiches and salads. The Market will additionally serve as a grab-and-go for marina and hotel guests alike.

Owner George Filopoulos said: "Montauk is a market that is important to us personally and professionally, and we are thrilled to add another location to the destination as we grow our footprint as a brand. Having extensive knowledge of Montauk from the last several years operating the original Gurney's, we know what guests look for and how to differentiate ourselves in the Hamptons. We are so pleased to launch a second location that will extend the Gurney's experience out to Star Island, while introducing a new type of stay in the marina setting."
