Grenada: Leo Garbutt and the team at Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel, where Rhodes opened his first restaurant abroad, has released a statement honouring the late chef.

The statement reads: "The Garbutt family and team at Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel are utterly bereft to hear the news of Gary Rhodes' sudden and unexpected passing. He was an industry great, a true inspiration to everyone who met him and a close family friend. We have been honoured to have worked with Gary for over 20 years and together we opened his first overseas restaurant at Calabash in 2006. All our thoughts are with his wonderful family during this tragic time, and we will cherish the years we were lucky enough to spend time and have fun with Gary, Jennie and the Rhodes' family. We at Calabash will continue to honour his craftsmanship and legacy at our Rhodes Restaurant in Grenada."

Filmed a few months ago, at the Calabash hotel, Rhodes talked about becoming one of the first TV chefs, his favourite celebrity peers, and the advice he'd give young and aspiring talent. The interview can be watched here.

Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel features 30 suites, all with balconies and some with private pools, along the beach of L'Anse Aux Epines in Grenada.

Having undergone extensive renovation, the property has recently joined Relais & Châteaux.

On-site amenities include the restaurant, Rhodes at Calabash, as well as the Beach Club at Calabash, and guests can partake in activities such as yoga, sailing, tennis, and snorkelling.
