US: A proposed Palm Springs hotel in the historic Tennis Club neighbourhood could open in 2020 if the developer, Richard Weintraub, adheres to an approved schedule.

Assuming all entitlements will be approved by March 2020, the City Council's performance schedule envisions an opening in 27 months:

  • November 2020: Submit construction documents and apply for building permit.
  • March 2021: Obtain city approval of construction documents and building permits.
  • June 2021: Begin construction of the hotel.
  • December 2021: "Substantially complete" construction.
  • February 2022: Open the hotel.

The Orchid Trees Resort & Spa will sit on the site of the former Orchid Tree Inn and Community Church of Palm Springs on the northwest corner of Baristo and Belardo roads.

In September 2013 the church was damaged by fire, and several buildings on the Orchid Tree Inn were destroyed in two separate fires in 2007.

The new hotel is being billed as a six-star resort to be operated by Auberge. Plans for the site call for 74 rooms, a restaurant and a spa.

A failure to adhere to the schedule could lead to the contract being terminated.
