US: KEX – an Icelandic social hotel brand – has announced the opening date of its Portland-based hotel on November 7, 2019.

The new property will be located at 100 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Portland, Oregon, and is housed in a fully restored and updated 1912 building.

It is a collaborative project by KEX, ChefStable and Greenlight Development.

Interior designer, Hálfdan Pedersen, has incorporated repurposed items from the Pacific Northwest, as well as restored and imported objects from across Europe and beyond.

The hotel will feature 152 private and shared rooms, common spaces, an all-day restaurant, a sauna, and modular event space for music, art and performance.

The ground floor restaurant Vivian will serve a Nordic-meets-Northwest menu, spearheaded by executive chef Alex Jackson and culinary director Ólafur Ágústsson.

The beverage program will be overseen by bar manager Lydia McLuen, an alum of Bar Casa Vale, Palomar and Tope.

On the lower lever, an 850-square-foot meeting and event space, Gym & Tonic, will provide a flexible area for private dinners, community gatherings, and corporate events.

Hotel reservations can now be made online.
