US: The Getaway, a 34-room boutique hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, has reopened after an extensive renovation.

The latest joint-venture asset between San Francisco-based PlumpJack Group and Meriwether Companies, The Getaway "exudes a coastal, casual-chic vibe with design inspired by its surrounding natural environs".

Situated on Ocean Avenue and Junipero Street, the former Village Inn features 34 guest rooms, each with its own fireplace, and "high-quality, thoughtful touchpoints including Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities and Doctor's Choice mattresses by Denver Mattress Co. for a restful night's sleep".

Design firm Shopworks orchestrated the redesign of The Getaway in a colour palette that takes cues from the sand, sky and sea. Furnishings, fabrics, and materials in white, natural, teak, and rattan are complemented by greys and blues.

"The Getaway has a playful, energetic and youthful personality - a distinct experience for families and the spirited lifestyle traveler who wants to live life out loud and explore the best of the destination," said general manager Kevin Krueger. "We're steps away from the downtown shops, restaurants and galleries, and the beach is just a short distance away."

Hilary Newsom, president and partner at PlumpJack Group, said: "Carmel-by-the-Sea has the history, character and quaint lifestyle that we love so much at PlumpJack Group," says  "We're thrilled to grow our presence here, to become a larger part of the community and give guests another way to experience the destination in addition to our first Carmel property, The Hideaway."

The Getaway is a sister property to The Hideaway, a 24-room inn opened by PlumpJack Group and Meriwether Companies in spring 2016.
