US: A redevelopment project in Detroit may now include a boutique hotel

The team planning to redevelop the former Standard Accident Insurance Co. building on Temple Street in Detroit has added a 100-room boutique hotel to its plans.

The plan was revealed in a brownfield redevelopment plan presented to Detroit City Council last week. The updated plan includes the hotel on the second, third and fourth floors, in addition to about 70 apartments on floors five to eight.

If proposals for the building of a hotel go ahead, the property would join a raft of new hotels planned or under construction in and around downtown Detroit, including the Shinola Hotel, the Siren Hotel and the Element Detroit.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring or summer and take up to 20 months to complete.
