US: Media brand Southern Living will open a 102-room boutique hotel on N. College Street in Auburn.

"This is something I think a lot of communities would love to have in their community, so we are fortunate," said Jim Buston, Auburn city manager. Downtown Auburn and Toomer's corner have always been a destination, but this hotel will be one more reason for why people will want to come downtown. I think it will be a real draw into the downtown area," said Buston.

Southern Living has also partnered with Bo Jackson to open up his first restaurant, a steakhouse, inside the hotel. "Everyone will go to Bo Jackson's restaurant. That is Auburn. Bo Jackson is iconic to Auburn as Toomer's Corner is to Auburn," said Buston.

Southern Living will also add their Great Southern Bakery and Coffee House and Birmingham chef Chris Hastings, who won the 2012 James Beard "best chef in the South" award, will open a restaurant in the hotel as well.

"You're getting all that Southern Living type food. A steakhouse and then a James Beard award winning chef restaurant, all in that space. So, we're very excited about this," said Buston.

Construction is due to start in Summer 2019 with the hotel opening for business in Summer 2020.

After Auburn's opening, Southern Living plans to open hotels in Birmingham and then Oxford, Mississippi.
