The Thompson Houston will form part of Tianqing Real Estate Development LLC and Houston-based DC Partners' mixed-use development at the southeast corner of Allen Parkway and Gillette Street.

The property is expected to have between 150 and 180 rooms and will open around 2020.

The hotel will offer "a locally inspired Texas experience that incorporates the Thompson brand DNA," said a Thompson spokesperson.

Thompson Hotels operates properties in New York City, Chicago, Seattle and Nashville, as well as one in Toronto and three in Mexico.

It will also open a property in Dallas, its first in Texas, in autumn 2018. A Thompson hotel is also being planned in San Antonio, which should break ground in spring 2017.
