Australia: Paul Fischmann, the founder and CEO of 8Hotels, has invested in Typsy, an online hospitality training platform.

Typsy is an online training platform that "helps hospitality professionals learn and perfect industry-specific skills through bite-size video courses". It offers training for "every aspect of the hospitality industry", from service to business operations. Its content caters to newcomers as well as experienced staff, and aims to train "a new generation of motivated, passionate and knowledgeable industry professionals".

Its course library currently consists of more than 200 course titles and is set to grow to 300 in the next six months.

Fischmann said: "I've always been fascinated with culture and people, and the different ways of achieving the best possible service levels for 8Hotels. When I saw the benefits of the Typsy platform, and met the team behind it, I was hooked!"

Fischmann founded 8Hotels in 2003, since when he has owned and operated 21 boutique hotels with more than 500 staff.

Jonathan Plowright, founder and CEO of Typsy, said:  "The future of the industry depends on training and motivating the current and future workforce to greater heights. Social media and online reviews have put the customer solely in the box seat, and those businesses that don't invest heavily in training and customer service will simply get left behind."
