UK: Hoteliers Simon Rhatigan and Simon Kershaw have joined forces to launch Helmsley Hospitality.

Rhatigan will step down as managing director of Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants to run Helmsley, which has secured venture capital funding to buy and refurbish existing hotels, as well as build new ones. It has several sites in the pipeline, in both the north and south of England, including one coastal location.

Rhatigan, who is due to leave his current role in February 2017, said: "We are looking at properties of around 50 bedrooms or more, which is generally the size you need to be economical."

Rhatigan joined Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants in 2013. He previously owned the Feversham Arms Hotel and Verbena Spa in Helmsley, North Yorkshire.

Kershaw currently leads the hospitality team at Carlton Towers, an events and wedding venue in Carlton, North Yorkshire. He is also a non-executive director of wine merchants House of Townend.
