Malta: Three new boutique hotels are set to open across Gozo by the end of the year.

A further four hotels are in the development pipeline on Malta's sister island, according to parliamentary secretary Ian Borg.

Inaugurating a new boutique hotel in Nadur, Borg said the government is "intent on fostering a business-friendly environment to help attract further investment".

Borg said that three boutique hotels are set to open in Xewkija, Ghajnsielem and Sannt, and works on these projects, by the Qiaunt Boutique Hotels brand, will be completed by the end of the year.

The new hotels will total 35 rooms, while the Nadur boutique hotel has 12 rooms.

In August, tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis said that 16 planning applications for boutique hotels in Valletta had been submitted. The minister had said that the development of the boutique hotels would turn Valletta into a city break and help diversify the type of tourists who visit Malta.
