US: Harpeth Square, an $80 million mixed-use project in Franklin, Tennessee, which includes a boutique hotel, has been given the green light.

City Alderman Martin and her board of Mayor and Alderman colleagues unanimously approved the project this week after a public hearing.

Despite local residents voicing concerns over the traffic impact of the scheme, local businesses say a hotel within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of the downtown area would be "a major boon for business owners and would give visitors a needed alternative to the big chain hotels in Cool Springs, which tend to attract more business travellers".

Harpeth Square will include a 115-room boutique hotel, 151 luxury residential units and commercial space on a 4.5-acre site.

Project owner has chosen developer Senate Hospitality Group to build the scheme.
