The day after Commune Hotels & Resorts' Niki Leondakis announced that her company is to open a Thompson Hotel in a Nashville mixed-use development, her former employed Kimpton have revealed they are to do the same.

Kimpton will operate a 180-room full-service hotel at Buckingham Midtown, with the developer now looking for tenants for the 35,000 square feet of ground level retail space also planned at the development, which will include 350 apartment units.

Demolition of the existing structures on the two-acre site will begin next week, with full completion of the project expected in early 2017. The site fronts Nashville's 21st Avenue South and Division Street and is bounded to the north by 21st Avenue, to the south by the alley behind Bound'ry, Giovanni Ristorante and South Street restaurants, to the east by 20th Avenue South and to the west by Mellow Mushroom.

Scott Travis, vice president of development at Buckingham, said of Kimpton: "They're a national brand with extensive experience in high-end boutique hotels and they bring a high level of creativity to the table."
