France: Accor has acquired a 35 per cent stake in Mama Shelter hotels, which aims to open 20 properties over the next five years.

France: Accor has acquired a 35 per cent stake in Mama Shelter hotels, which aims to open 20 properties over the next five years.

Mama Shelter currently has five Philippe Starck-designed hotels - in Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Istanbul - totalling 633 rooms and employing 450 people. It is targeting 2014 revenue of more than €35 million according to founder Serge Trigano.

Its target destinations include a second hotel in Paris, Los Angeles, Lille, Zurich, Mexico City, Seoul, Amsterdam, Barcelona, New York and London.

The Trigano family, who founded Mama Shelter in 2008 as well as founding the Club Med brand, will retain a stake of about 38 per cent in Mama Shelter, with Accor taking 35 per cent and French businessman Michel Reybier holding the balance.
