US: Airbnb has hired Joie de Vivre founder Chip Conley as head of global hospitality.

In his new role, Conley will head hospitality and help hosts with listings on the online accommodation marketplace "to improve experiences for travellers and be better hosts". He is launching an online training programme, with webinars designed to teach hosts to create better experiences. Airbnb has more than 500,000 listings and more than 8.5 million total guests - up from 4 million at the start of 2013.

Conley will focus on nine standards for all Airbnb hosts, including cleanliness, time responding to travellers on the site, and accuracy of listings.

He is also overseeing the launch of an Airbnb Hospitality Innovation Lab based in Dublin, which will test new services and features.

Conley is the founder of the boutique hotel company Joie de Vivre, and sold his majority stake two years ago. Joie de Vivre is now part of Commune Hotels and Resorts.
