UK: Developer Harlequin Hotels & Resorts has stopped construction of the 69-bedroom H Barbados boutique hotel.

The property had been scheduled to open late this year on a Hastings Beach boardwalk in Christ Church on Barbados' south-west coast and was to be the first hotel in Harlequin's H boutique hotel brand.

Harlequin is proceeding with plans for the Merricks Resort villa project in Barbados, but construction has not begun at planned resorts in the Dominican Republic and St. Lucia.

Earlier this month, Harlequin's auditors BDO resigned due to a "breakdown in communication". The company is also the subject of a joint investigation by the UK Serious Fraud Office and Essex Police.
