UK: Some of the best boutique hotels in the UK are celebrating their achievements at the AA Hospitality Awards.

The Lime Wood hotel in Hampshire's New Forest was crowned AA Hotel of the Year England at a recent awards ceremony in London. Owned by billionaire businessman Jim Ratcliffe, the former Parkhill Hotel near Lyndhurst, underwent a £30 million renovation three years ago and has been hailed "as the last word in five-star luxury".

An AA spokesman said: "Lime Wood is a delightful property with a true country house feel where rooms have been fitted with no expense spared. There are 14 suites and 15 bedrooms, many of which have real fires, free-standing baths and private gardens or balconies overlooking the New Forest. Guests can also enjoy the world-class spa, with treatment rooms and an impressive hydro pool and sauna. This hotel truly sets the scene for the future of country houses: hi-tech, traditional, unpretentious yet outstanding at the same time."

Lime Wood's manager, Robin Hutson, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to be recognised in this way. While only two hours from London we're lucky to be nestled deep in the New Forest National Park and guests can enjoy being surrounded by the ancient forest."

In a good night for Hampshire hospitality, Hand Picked Hotels, which owns Rhinefield House near Brockenhurst, was named AA Large Hotel Group of the Year, and The Green House in nearby Bournemouth was crowned AA Eco Hotel of the Year at the awards ceremony.

Elsewhere, the Hillbark Hotel & Spa, near Liverpool, has been awarded three AA Rosettes for the hotel's fine dining restaurant, Stewart Warner at Hillbark.

"We are thrilled to have been acknowledged with three coveted AA Rosettes," said Warner. "Stewart Warner at Hillbark strives to offer a fresh approach to modern British cuisine and it is an honour to be recognised alongside our peers within the industry".

Chef Nigel Mendham was also awarded three AA Rosettes for outstanding service and food at his restaurant 36, at Dukes Hotel in London's St James. The hotel itself was awarded five AA Red Stars - the highest rating the organisation bestows.
