Norway: Expansion plans for the Lofoten Links golf course in the Arctic Circle include a boutique hotel and a spa.

Situated 95 miles north of the Arctic Circle at 68 degrees latitude, the course allows golfers to to play 24-hours a day in the summer, and is also a popular venue for viewing the Northern Lights.

The new hotel and spa will be built in 2014 and a further nine holes will be added to the course. The property will be managed by golf course management and development company Troon.

Bruce Glasco, vice-president and managing director of Troon International Operations, said: "So many golf courses claim to be unique, yet Lofoten Links is that and so much more. Not only are the surroundings visually stunning, but its location relative to the Arctic Circle means that it truly offers golfers a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We're certainly looking forward to working with such a ground-breaking design, which will undoubtedly appeal to the adventurous traveller and golfing aficionado."
