US: Commune Hotels & Resorts, the joint venture between Thompson Hotels and Joie de Vivre, has recruited Niki Leondakis from Kimpton.

She takes up her new role on November 26 after nearly 20 years at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurant Group, where she most recently served as president and chief operating officer.

John Pritzker, Commune co-chairman, said: "Niki's work at Kimpton exhibited her passion and balanced approach to leadership. Having Niki partner with us at this time gives her a unique opportunity to impact all aspects of the company during a period of rapid expansion."

Commune Hotels & Resorts was created in October 2011 by a merger of Joie de Vivre Hotels and Thompson Hotels. It has a portfolio of 45 hotels in the US, including the Thompson Hotels and Joie de Vivre properties, as well as the Belgraves in London. Leondakis is charged with expanding in to markets including Hawaii, London, New York, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, Cabo San Lucas and Palo Alto; while growing the company's annual revenue to a target of $1 billion.

Outgoing Commune CEO Stephen Brandman will remain on the company's board. "After 12 years of leading the company and now splitting my time between San Fran and New York I realized that three weeks on the road each month was not working for me. My partners understand so now I am focusing on developing new hotel deals, which I love. I fully support Niki and think she will be great," he said.
