• Defining what the term boutique hotel actually means is a thankless and probably impossible task. When we first launched the Boutique and Lifestyle Hotel Summit in 2011 we had a panel session on just that topic - not only did the five industry luminaries on the stage have differing interpretations of the phrase, I don't think we'd have found two people in the whole room whose idea of what a boutique hotel is would have been exactly the same.

So it's refreshing to find an operator, in the shape of STEM Hotels' Robert van Eerde, who defines his company's properties as "true boutique". Whether you agree with him or not, it's good to see somebody who believes in their vision with such commitment. Read more about STEM here.
