In the latest of a regular series, we check in with leading hoteliers and general managers to get an exclusive glimpse into their careers, their lives and their ambitions. This time, we speak to Stephane Vilar, cluster general manager for nhow London and NH Kensington London.

I enjoy my job because…

I love meeting people, and the diversity of my role which spans across all departments. We need to sell, serve, satisfy and control cost. So it's a very diverse and complex role.

I find my job challenging because…

In the eyes of the customer, you are responsible for what your team says and does (or doesn't do)!

My best achievement in business was…

When I worked in Seychelles. Here I turned 30 per cent to above 80 per cent and made the operation profitable, connected with the community through many activities, trained and developed many team members, and localised three key positions in the hotel such as the director of sales, the reservation manager and the director of human resources.

My worst mistake in business was…

Opening a business lounge at an airport after not having checked that Emirates wouldn’t be able to move their business travellers to us, as the airport was managed by a subsidiary of Etihad!

What I am yet to accomplish is…

To become a regional manager.

If I could change one thing about myself, it would be…

To be more patient.

If I could change one thing about the industry, it would be…

To be more environmentally conscious.

My top three bucket list items are…

Customer satisfaction, team satisfaction and profit.

My life philosophy is…

Live at the fullest like there is no tomorrow.

My favourite song, book or film is…

Film, Meet Jo Black.

My ideal weekend would be…

Travel to the south of France and spend some time at home.
