Hotel EMC2 opens in Chicago

US: Marriott’s Autograph Collection has announced the opening of its latest member, Hotel EMC2 in Chicago’s Streeterville neighbourhood.

Marriott said the property will “celebrate the convergence of art and science through its design, cuisine and guest experience”.

“Hotel EMC2 is the perfect addition to Autograph Collection Hotels with its complex, yet enriching concept and complementary design elements,” said Julius Robinson, vice president, Autograph Collection Hotels. “Our hotels and resorts are known for providing standout guest experiences that are exactly like nothing else, and we believe that Hotel EMC2 will exceed this promise, attracting global travellers and Chicago notables alike.”

Designed by the Rockwell Group, the aesthetic of the 195-room hotel boasts a typographic design upon arrival with the words of Leonardo da Vinci: “Study the science of art. Study the art of science. Develop your senses – learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.”

Da Vinci’s vision “guides the design of the hotel, from the lobby, which features an assembly of freestanding bookcases, creating nooks and crannies of curiosities for guests to explore, to the well-appointed guest rooms and suites that are subtly influenced by the 1920s laboratories with rose gold fixtures and luxurious furnishings”.

“It’s always intrigued me that people distinguish art and science as two different disciplines; I see them as one in the same,” said Scott Greenberg, President & CEO of SMASHotels, which will manage the property. “Our unique hotel will pay homage to the symbiotic relationship of these fundamental concepts and transcend the traditional hospitality experience. It will educate, inspire and ignite imagination and innovation at every turn, challenging guests to expand their understanding of how everything is connected.”

The hotel will also feature a 120-seat contemporary American restaurant, the Albert, a 20-seat open kitchen where diners are invited behind-the-scenes to witness chef Brandon Brumback at work.
