US: A 13-storey hotel is set to be built on the site of O'Brien's Restaurant & Bar in Chicago's Old Town.

The project will be a collaboration between Condor Partners, Chicago Development Partners, and local architect Pappageorge Haymes. The team originally presented their plans for the site to community members in late 2015.

The initial 18-storey proposal was criticised for being too dense and tall for the neighbourhood, and a revised 13-storey version of the project was ultimately passed by the Chicago Plan Commission in June of 2016. The approved plan also calls for 60 parking spaces as well as four single family homes to be built on lots behind the hotel.

O'Brien's Restaurant is expected to return, anchoring the development's ground floor. The new building's second floor will feature a high-end restaurant with retractable windows. An open air rooftop bar is also being proposed.

Demolition has started and the project team hope pot have the hotel open some time in 2018.
