Marriott puts London Edition property on the market ahead of 2013 opening

UK: Marriott International has put the former Berners Hotel, which is due to open next year under its Editions brand, up for sale.

The asking price for the 193-room property is reported to be in the region of £150 million ($238 million), more than double the £60 million Marriott bought it for in 2010 from administrators KPMG. HVS has been appointed to handle the sale.

The building has been closed since 2006, and is undergoing redevelopment ahead of a 2013 opening. Marriott will operate the property for its new owners under the Edition brand.

When Marriott acquired the 175-year old building in 2010, it appointed Ian Schrager to design the property. “I am excited and passionate about creating an authentic and original experience for this special Edition hotel in this gateway city,” he said.
